The EGR and DPF systems are essential components in your diesel truck's exhaust system that help control emissions. At Pete’s Fleet Service, we have the experience and expertise to diagnose and repair your fleet vehicles’ EGR and DPF systems. Regular maintenance not only regulate engine emissions but also ensures that your vehicle or fleet remains in compliance with emission requirements.  If not cleaned and functioning properly, these systems can put a significant strain on your diesel engine performance, and lead to a host of issues.

EGR System Repairs

The EGR system helps decrease NOx emissions in diesel engines by lowering the combustion temperature because the greater the heat the greater the amount of NOx that is produced. The EGR system recirculates the exhaust gases back into the engine instead of letting them out through the exhaust pipe. An EGR cooler cools the exhaust gases before reintroducing them into the engine. From here, a valve regulates the amount that is recirculated, making your truck’s engine more environmentally friendly.

With all these components, it’s easy to understand how EGR systems are susceptible to mechanical troubles. Most commonly we see the following two:

  • Malfunctioning EGR valves: Carbon buildup caused by exposure to unfiltered emissions can cause the EGR valves to seize up, resulting in an uncontrolled exhaust recirculation system and potentially severe engine damage.
  • Leaks in the EGR coolers: Leaks can cause coolant to mix with the exhaust gases and be sent back into the engine. This not only damages your engine but also affects your truck’s overall performance.

Our technicians are experienced in identifying and repairing faulty EGR valves and EGR cooler leaks. As well as other issues that may arise in your truck’s EGR system.

DPF System Repairs

Modern diesel trucks have a DPF component which is designed to accumulate soot and other debris from exhaust gases so they are not emitted into the environment. As the DPF has a limited storage capacity, it may enter Automatic Regeneration mode periodically to burn off stored material and make space for more. However, the DPF may become clogged sometimes before it reaches full capacity. Having regular DPF cleaning ensures that your system is operating properly.  Our team at Pete’s Fleet Service can remove and clean your DPF system within 2 days!
